If you decide to come early or stay through Sunday, the Brandywine River Valley area is lovely, especially in the fall. Below are a few cool places to check out:
Longwood Gardens: The most famous attraction in our area – Longwood features outdoor gardens, an indoor garden conservatory and greenhouses (with an awesome kids area) that are home to an incredible array of plantlife, revolving outdoor art installations, amazing tree houses you can tour, and miles of walking trails. Additionally, a nighttime light exhibit runs through Oct 29th (about a 5 minute drive from the hotel).
Brandywine River Museum: An art museum renowned for its holdings of the Wyeth family of artists. The museum’s collections focus on American art, specifically nineteenth- and twentieth-century landscape paintings. It is situated on the banks of the Brandywine River and is a great place to spend a few hours (~10 minutes from hotel).
Downtown Kennett Square: A small downtown area about a 3-minute drive from the hotel, with an array of shops and restaurants. It is a great place to go for a stroll or grab a quick bite. Some places of interest:
- Talula’s Table – great little market with coffee, sandwiches, salads, pastries, etc.
- Philter – great coffee
- Kennett Brewing Company – new, small local brewery, nice space to hang out
- Victory Brewery – More well-known brewery, a bigger (louder) bar/restaurant with lots of beers on tap
- Mushroom Cap – Kennett Square is the mushroom capital of the United States and this little gift shop is where you can buy all of the mushroom accessories, and real mushrooms, that you never wanted and more.
Chadds Ford Winery – A cute little winery close to where we are getting married that has a small tasting room and fun weekend events.
